Fuhriman and Buckingham square off in race for Idaho House District 30 B

ARCO and SHELLEY, Idaho (KIFI) – With economic pressures front and center in this election, Local News 8 reached out to Legislative candidates to determine how they would help families in eastern Idaho deal with rising costs.

Both candidates Ben Fuhriman and Bree Buckingham, vying for Idaho House District 30 Seat B, took time to speak with us. District 30 B covers Butte and Bingham Counties.

Democratic candidate Bree Buckingham said she would work to repeal House Bill 40, which lowered corporate tax rates from 5.695 percent to 5.3 percent in Idaho.

“I would repeal H.B. 40 because H.B. 40 was a $250 million tax cut to the corporations that did not even need those tax cuts,” Buckingham said. “And then the rest of us are bearing the burden for that – those of us like veterans, those of us on SNAP, those of us on Medicaid. So they’re making those people pay more.”

Republican incumbent Fuhriman said many of the factors driving inflation are outside of state control, due to the federal government continuing to print too many dollars.

“What we can do is we can make sure that our taxes are accountable – the taxes we collect from from one another are going to what it’s intended to go towards,” he said. “That we’re paying attention to the waste. We’re cutting back on any fraud that might exist. We’re running our agencies lean and efficient and making sure that when we do collect a dollar from the taxpayer, that that dollar is stretching as far as it possibly can.”

The countdown to the election is quickly approaching.
