A split vote yesterday will necessitate a runoff election for the office Pocatello mayor. Mayor Brian Blad won 46% of the vote and candidate David Worley received 34%. The vote was split by candidate Christina “Chris” Stevens who won 19% of votes. Time will tell if Mr. Worle can mobilize the polls, using the momentum he gained to address voter concerns and capture the votes he needs in the runoffs. Mayor Blad has been in office for 3 terms and traditionally incumbents win these races. Worle ran with the platform issues of transparency and “the focus of government to serving the citizens, not dictating to them.” Mayor Blad is confident in the improvements he has made in the city, citing local improvements in local wages and unemployment rates during his time in office. No date has been set for the runoff vote, but will likely be announced by the county clerk next Tuesday.
