Paul Haacke looked like an underdog when campaigning in a hotly contested school board race against union-backed Kenneth Williams. Williams was recently from out of state and had no children in the school district, which created an impression that he would be out of touch with the constituents. School district 91 voters decided overwhelmingly to vote for Haacke to fill the zone 2 trustee vacancy. Haacke’s campaign centered around listening to parents and students to meet their needs. Haacke won the election with 65% of the votes (1284 to 690).
