BOISE — The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) has launched its third annual “Name a Snowplow” contest, inviting Idaho students in grades 6 through 12 to submit creative names for the state’s winter maintenance vehicles.
Beginning October 1, classrooms and homeschool students across the state can work with teachers to submit original name suggestions. The entry window will remain open throughout the month of October, and the winning selections are scheduled to be announced by the end of the year.
“Our snowplow drivers take tremendous pride in keeping Idaho’s roads safe, and this contest gives students a fun way to connect with that work while learning about winter driving safety,” said Laila Kral, ITD Chief Deputy.
According to the department, two snowplows in each of ITD’s six regional divisions will receive student-selected names. ITD employees will vote to select the winning entries. Once chosen, the names will be placed directly onto the snowplows, and the winning classrooms will receive a visit from their designated plow and driver for a winter safety presentation.
The initiative, supported by the Idaho Department of Education, aims to provide educators with an interactive method to teach winter driving safety, particularly to students preparing for driver’s education. ITD also hopes the contest will encourage motorists to remain alert and patient around snowplows during the winter season.
Interested educators and homeschool families can access the contest rules and submit entries through the ITD website.
